ABOUT PHILLIP MORGAN
I am a Professor in Human Factors Psychology / Engineering and Cognitive Science within the School of Psychology at Cardiff University and international expert in topics including: humans in AI & automation, intelligent mobility, Cyberpsychology, defence, HMI design & HCI, task interruption & distraction, trust in technology, and elements of memory and adaptive cognition.At Cardiff University, I am Director of the Human Factors Excellence research group; Deputy Co-Director and Director of Research of the Centre for AI, Robotics, and Human Machine Systems (IROHMS); and Co-Theme Lead for Transport and Theme Lead for Human Factors and Cognitive Science within the Digital Transformation Innovation Institute (DTII). I Direct the Airbus Academic Centre of Excellence in Human-Centric Cyber Security and am Co-Academic Lead for a Partnership between Airbus and Cardiff University - and have been seconded, p/t, to Airbus for >6-yrs. I have won UK and international funding (funding councils industry, government, charitable organisations) for >50 projects, totaling ~£40million (UK). Projects include: AI4CI (EPSRC,~£12m) IROHMS (ERDF/WEFO,>£5.2m), Airbus Human-Centric Cyber Security (>£1.5m); ESRC-JST Rule of Law in the Age of AI - AVs, XAI and Robotics (~£800k); and defence and cyber security projects on Trust in Systems (HSSRC), and Developing HF Guidelines for Robots & Automated Systems (HSSRC). I co-founded HumaniFAI Ltd and am Director of Research. I am Senior Research Fellow with the IFOW. I also hold positions as a Visiting Professor at Lulea University of Technology (Sweden) and Distinguished Fellow at the University of Canberra (Australia).I previously worked as an Associate Professor (SL) in Cognitive Psychology & Human Factors at UWE-Bristol and was Theme Leader within the Psychological Sciences Research Group. I worked as a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology at UWN & USW and before that as a Senior Research Associate at Cardiff University - on projects in areas of cognitive and applied psychology, HF, & HCI. I was truly lucky to work with Prof D M Jones OBE (also my PhD supervisor), amongst others. I gained a PhD in Experimental Psychology at Cardiff University (ESRC comp): ‘Now, where was I?’ A cognitive experimental analysis of the influence of interruption on goal-directed behaviour.\' I have a PG-Diploma in Research Methods & a PGCHE. I am Fellow of the HEA and Associate Fellow of the BPS and on the SACs for AHFE and HCII International Conferences.
