Serving as a medical assistant at a busy occupational and environmental medicine practice has positioned me to support efforts to diagnose and treat work-relevant injuries, plus assist physical check-ups that identify health issues. I also have learned a lot about workplace safety, advancing my understanding of government regulations (both state and federal) aiming to keep employees safe doing their jobs. In addition, I learned the value of preventative measures to safeguard health; staying safe on the job can include taking breaks, reporting safety concerns, and using equipment properly. I was delighted to discover that a worker has the right to refuse work they deem dangerous.
