About Phillip Clendenin

Hello, my name is Phillip Clendenin, a student at Georgia Tech majoring in Aerospace Engineering. This past fall, I was an intern for Gulfstream Aerospace, where I was doing stress analysis for aircraft structures. During the summer, I did research through the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) at Georgia Tech under Professor Carl Johnson, where I used a thrust test stand to collect thrust and propulsive data from a multitude of motor and propeller combinations. At Georgia Tech, I am a Team Lead of the Design Build Fly Advanced team, and this past year we prepared for the SAE Aero Design East Competition, where we took first place overall. We conceptually designed using OpenVSP and AVL, and then constructed a primary aircraft that could carry as much water payload as possible. This mission also involves system integration as a smaller powered autonomous delivery aircraft (PADA) is dropped from the primary aircraft. The previous summer and up until February, I worked as an intern and test engineer on the Metal Hydride Team for JTEC Energy. Within this team, my primary contributions were constructing and running development tests on P & ID\'s, analyzing data in MATLAB, and pressure testing setups to determine their validity.
