ABOUT PHILIPPE BEZEAU
It has been years that I bring this project of furniture’s creation & contemporary objects. A project I realize by small steps, by small touches, in constant questioning because I didn’t find any rational explanations to justify what led me there. So, I learn by groping, to looking for, through my creations, the reasons that push me to continue. Here is one of the interpretations : In 1997, I embarked in the manufacturing of a little table, the Mondrian’s Table. But, it was first of all a recovery & makeover work. This piece of furniture underlined my influence with fine arts. I was aiming more an aesthetic than a reflection on the function itself. 10 years later, a coffee table & a pedestal table were born. “Functional” furniture. Granite base & sweet chestnut tray. Limousin’s materials. An aestheticism completely different, a minimal conception, a set of vertical and horizontal, a montage playing with materials\' balance and inertia. Two lamps have come next, granite and iron built in the same state of mind. Then, everything has stopped there. In 2010, a trip brought me in Kalahari desert, to the discovery of San people. It’s in this incongruous place that I had like an evidence. While this people has been pacing this territory for nearly years, there is no material trace of their history. Nothing! What a contradiction with our modern world, where our memory is object. Since, I went into this. I finalized my first work by designing a sofa-banquet (2012) and a low furniture (2014). A page turned. Four words now dictate my working of creation : Art, Function, Territory, Temporality. They manifest as an aesthetic use (put, tidy up…), a Lego construction, proximity of materials and people, the ephemeral of function and object.
