I lead Grant Thornton UK Forensic Dispute Resolution Services, which provides the full suite of expert witness and advisory services, including contentious valuation, expert determination and other post-M&A dispute resolution services. ABOUT PHILIPPA HILL
I am a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the ICAEW, specialising in forensic accounting services since 2001, prior to which I was an auditor. I am an accounting expert leading the accounting disputes and investigations practice, including professional negligence, accounting irregularities/misstatements, post transaction dispute resolution, financial misrepresentation, breach of warranty, loss of profits and other business valuation and quantum issues.I act as expert witness or adviser in commercial disputes including commercial litigation, arbitration and expert determination. Areas of expertise include:* accounting integrity and conduct matters - including professional conduct investigations, and professional negligence claims against auditors and accountants, supporting audit experts to produce reports on liability, as well as investigating accounting irregularities and misstatements - reported cases include giving evidence for the Financial Reporting Council in the disciplinary tribunal hearing of advisers to MG Rover group and the Phoenix Four,* SPA Advisory - advising on completion mechanism and purchase price adjustments and ensuring the sale and purchase agreement accurately prescribes the basis of preparation of accounts driving the price, helping parties to avoid disputes, co-author of the ICAEW Corporate Finance Faculty\'s \'Best practice guidelines on \'Completion mechanisms: determining the final equity value in transactions\', regularly engaged by parties post-deal to resolve completion accounts and earn-outs, and significant experience advising on breach of warranty claims and associated W&I insurance claims* contractual advisory and dispute resolution - calculating or verifying amounts due under a contract, investigating suspected errors or breaches, acting as expert witness on quantum issues * criminal and regulatory inquiries - experience includes fraud, false accounting, insider dealing and money laundering investigations, including a year on secondment to the FCA (then FSA) Enforcement Division
