WORK HISTORY
Bioinformatics Scientist @BioNTech SE
Bioinformatics Scientist in Translational Medicine, working at the interface of clinical oncology, biomarker strategy, and data science- Translational biomarker analyses across 5+ oncology clinical trials (FIH–Ph2/3), spanning 4 indications and multiple drug modalities (mRNA therapeutics, CAR-T, ADCs, bispecific antibodies)- Identification of patient stratification strategies, resistance mechanisms, and mode-of-action from multi-modal datasets (transcriptomics, genomics, cytometry; dataset scale: 5–400 patients, up to features)- Initiated and led a company-wide transcriptomics platform, consolidating a fragmented RNA-seq data landscape across 9+ clinical programs into standardised processing, quality control, normalised data, and downstream analytical features via automated pipelines- Built end-to-end automated differential expression and cell-type deconvolution pipelines integrated into Business Intelligence dashboards- Established cloud-based computing and database environment for patient-derived data (Databricks on AWS) following FAIR principles- Close cross-functional collaboration with translational scientists, clinicians, data analysts, and data engineers in a global matrix organisation- Presentation of complex results to audiences of 2–25, including project leads and senior scientific leadership, supporting project-level decision-making

ABOUT PHILIPP LICHT
Translational bioinformatician combining wet-lab fluency, clinical omics analysis, and data platform architecture. 7+ years spanning molecular biology, clinical bioinformatics (FIH–Ph2/3, 5+ oncology trials across mRNA, CAR-T, and ADC modalities), and scalable pipeline development in cloud environments. At BioNTech, I initiated and built a company-wide transcriptomics platform serving 9+ clinical programs — from concept to production. In parallel, I conduct independent translational biomarker analyses identifying patient stratification strategies, resistance mechanisms, and mode-of-action signals from multi-modal clinical datasets.During my PhD (summa cum laude), I independently conceived, funded (€230k+ in grants), and published a translational multi-omic research program, resulting in 4 peer-reviewed publications including first-author work in npj Biofilms and Microbiomes.I extract robust, biologically meaningful signals from complex and noisy clinical data to support translational decision-making — and I communicate them clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
