   Building and Leading the MBTA’s Operations Analytics TeamThe Operations Analytics team was established in 2022 as a dedicated resource to provide MBTA Operations with data and analytics tools that help departments deliver safer, more efficient, and more reliable service. As part of the Operations Planning, Scheduling, and Strategy division, we work across all aspects of Operations, as well as collaborate closely with partners in Lean Strategy, the Office of Performance Management and Innovation, and the Technology and Innovation Department. Our team is organized around five practice areas, supporting Service Planning & Scheduling, Rail Transportation, Bus Transportation, the Operations Control Center, and the Training School. We work across MBTA data systems, and our primary tools include Tableau, SQL, Excel, Python, and R. Highlights of our work include:• Providing data and analyses on bus and rail run time, on-time performance, headway management, ridership, and crowding for schedule improvement, real-time management, and project planning.• Developing daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports for management and executives.• Helping deliver a safer operating environment with analytical tools for better tracking of accidents, incidents, and investigations.• Providing tools to track employee certifications and training. • Helping departments track compliance with work hours to assist with fatigue management and compliance with policies and regulations.• Developing tools to assist with workforce planning, absence management, and extraboard planning for bus and rail operations.• Supporting transit priority project planning and post-implementation evaluation.• Supporting rail diversion shuttle planning. • Managing the bus automated passenger counter (APC) system.• Supporting a wide variety of customized legacy applications for Operations management.
