Dow Schofield Watts was established in 2002 by 3 partners who realised the accounting profession was ready for something new. We are now a multiple award-winning team of over 100 professional staff with offices across the UK providing mid-market companies and private equity houses with a full suite of advisory services (from corporate finance, debt advisory, business planning, due diligence, public sector, financial modelling to equity finance, tax, VAT and business recovery services). I head up our UK Debt Advisory business which I set up in 2020 having grown frustrated with the superficial corporate debt \"advice\" prevalent in the market which I believe adds little true value. As a former senior banker at various multi-national financial institutions, and one who has chaired credit committees and personally lent many hundreds of millions to large and small businesses, I know exactly what challenges will be thrown at any funding request and how to optimise not just the pricing and covenants, but more importantly negotiate all the commercial aspects of the facility documentation to maximise operational flexibility (something rebadged corporate financiers haven\'t the experience to do). Our team is uniquely made up exclusively of former lenders so you know the advice you\'re getting comes from years of dealing with the same issues at the very coalface of lending. We know what funders can and cant agree to, which buttons to press (and as importantly not to) and when and how to do so. In addition, our extensive careers in banking means our network of senior level contacts at innumerable funding institutions is without doubt unrivalled. ABOUT PHIL TARIMO
Phil is the Head of DSW Debt Advisory. In Sept 2005 he was one of 4 co-founders of Deloitte Debt Advisory, helping grow the business from scratch to advising clients on transactions in excess of £3bn within 2 years. More recently he was COO of DF Capital, an AIM listed supply chain finance business, and prior to that UK Head of Working Capital Solutions at CYBG (now Virgin Money) where he was responsible for the asset and invoice finance, treasury solutions, international trade and merchant services businesses (£1bn assets, 171 FTE). Prior to this he was UK Head of Corporate & Acquisition Finance and Regional Director for the West of England - incorporating £1.5bn of assets across Commercial, Corporate, Private Banking and Wealth Management, Insurance and Merchant services. Life before then was a mixture of corporate advisory (PWC, KPMG, Deloitte) and leveraged finance including helping set up RBS’s mid-market Corporate and Structured Finance business in 2001/2.
