ABOUT PHIL BUCKELLEW
As President of the Infrastructure Modernization Business Unit at Rocket Software, I lead a global organization focused on helping enterprises modernize mission-critical infrastructure with confidence. Our work spans mainframe modernization, hybrid cloud strategy, and data modernization, supporting organizations in financial services, telecommunications, transportation, healthcare, and government as they evolve core systems without disrupting the operations that power their business. My focus is on building high-performing teams that deliver measurable outcomes. Successful modernization requires more than deploying new technology. It demands operational discipline, strong cybersecurity practices, regulatory rigor, and a clear architectural strategy that connects mainframe environments, distributed systems, and cloud platforms into a cohesive hybrid model. At the same time, data modernization is essential to ensure that AI, analytics, and automation initiatives are grounded in secure, governed, and accessible enterprise data. Throughout my career, I have led global product management, development, operations, marketing, and business development teams. Prior to Rocket Software, I led the IBM Public Cloud platform business, including containers, object storage, and serverless technologies. In that role, I was responsible for building and scaling hyperscale cloud-native services while achieving and maintaining key compliance certifications such as SOC, FedRAMP, HIPAA, and ISO. Earlier in my career, I held leadership roles across collaboration, mobile, storage, cloud, and mainframe software, building a broad foundation across enterprise infrastructure. The strongest results I have seen come from organizations that take a disciplined, comprehensive approach to modernization, integrating infrastructure, applications, and data strategies while maintaining security and resilience. I am proud of the teams I have built and the transformation programs we have delivered, improving customer service quality, availability, usability, and sustained business performance. Outside of work, I enjoy cycling, shooting pool, traveling, and cooking for my family, especially smoking Texas BBQ in Massachusetts snowstorms.
