About Phelisha Napples

I am a Biology major at the University at Albany with a passion for marine biology and conservation. While my school doesn’t offer specialized marine biology courses, I am actively seeking opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the field. I am currently interning at Capital Coral Research & Restoration, where I assist with coral reef restoration research, species monitoring, and data collection. I also earned my PADI Open Water Diver certification through a study abroad program, where I gained valuable underwater exploration and conservation experience. This certification has fueled my passion for marine ecosystems, and I’m eager to expand my knowledge in the field. In addition to my academic pursuits, I’ve developed strong teamwork, leadership, and communication skills through roles as a waitress, camp counselor, substitute teacher and club sports member. These experiences have enhanced my ability to adapt quickly to new environments and work collaboratively with diverse teams. I’m excited to continue building my skills and knowledge in marine science and am looking for opportunities to contribute to marine conservation and research efforts.

   As a substitute teacher, I managed classroom activities and followed or implemented lesson plans in the absence of regular teachers. I provided individual support to students, fostering an engaging and productive learning environment. This role honed my adaptability, problem-solving, and communication skills, as I was required to quickly adjust to different classroom settings and student needs.
