Since 2018 I have been working on the project “Replacement construction of the Duisburg Neuenkamp Rhine bridge including the 8-lane expansion of the section of the A40 between Duisburg-Homberg and Duisburg-Hafen”. The expansion length is approx. 4.5 km. The expansion section is characterized by the new Duisburg-Neuenkamp Rhine bridge with a length of 802 m. The span of the new bridge is 380 m, making it the cable-stayed bridge with the largest span in Germany. Construction began in June 2020. On November 6th, 2023, the southern part of the structure was put into operation and the first major milestone (6+0 traffic routing and decommissioning of the existing bridge) was reached. The second major milestone came in February 2025 with the successful completion of the dismantling of the 50-year-old Rhine bridge. The northern part of the structure is currently being built. The new bridge (south substructure in the end position after the transverse displacement and north substructure) will be completed by 2028.
