ABOUT PETRI DE VILLIERS

I am structural engineer with consulting experience in the design of reinforced concrete and steel buildings in South Africa, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. My main duties to date include design, documentation, site supervision, project stakeholder interaction and managing delivery teams. I hold a master’s degree in structural engineering. My strength lie in technical ability, passion for simplifying complex problems and mentorship. My main interests are high-rise reinforced concrete structures and seismic design. I have experience with various FEM software packages, BIM (Revit) and Python and excel macros scripting for post processing, data manipulation and design. This range of experience has led to multiple ventures of automation of mundane tasks in design and FEM modeling. My project experience in the built environment include a 65 square meter shopping centre in Cape Town, South Africa, a super tall tower to be constructed in the UAE, a 9-storey residential concrete structure in a congested Cape Town suburb, retrofitting a 10-storey office block and adding 14 storeys in the Melbourne city center, and a residential complex with 3 towers in Sydney. My project roles included on-site engineer, structural design engineer and structural coordinator.
