About Peter K Nance
I want to know how we might sustainably solve tomorrow\'s policy and strategy challenges across multiple commodities including agriculture, energy, environment, metals, and other resources. As a public speaker and publishing analyst with current research activities in ESG, renewables, and global power, I continually update my views with regard to renewables, blockchain and IoT, oil, gas, coal, nuclear, storage, sustainability, and climate change issues both from supply and demand perspectives. Current challenges of interest:What are possible outcomes for carbon allowance utilization as a result of COP26? How might the role of regulators be redefined in this space? How do technologies such as blockchain and DAOs influence the shape of a revised energy ecosystem? What are the prospects for offshore wind for Europe, the United States/N America and globally over the next 5 to 10 years? Are current proposals for carbon-negative renewable generation feasible? How are blockchain and IoT being used in support of the energy transition?Do \"Big Data\" challenges overwhelm the Smart Grid? Can IoT grow from 11 to 27 billion devices by 2025 and deliver real business opportunities? What opportunities exist for blockchain applications in energy? How might implementation and successful integration proceed? How can we view security protocols and IoT automation opportunities? How might Mexico energy evolve over the next five years?Specialties: Asset Development; Auction Design; Commodities; DAO; Decentralized Autonomous Organization; Derivatives; Electricity; Energy Trading; Energy Transition; Environment; Equities; ESG; Financial Evaluation; Forecasting; Forward Prices; Green Hydrogen; Internet of Things; IoT; Market Design; Media Interviews; Mergers and Acquisition; Modeling; Offshore Wind; Oil and Gas; Power; Project Finance; Public Speaking; Resource Planning; Renewables; Risk Management; Solar; Structured Finance; Trading; Training; Utilities; Venture Capital; Wind.
Experience
Principal and Senior Consultant
Jan 2013 — Present · Austin, TX, US
Lead Economics Advisor responsible for enterprise risk, commodity trading and risk management to design and assist in implementing corporate strategy to support better decisions. We use value-chain assessments, decision analysis, optimization and simulation to aid in prioritizing costs, programs and investments. I am active on global renewable and sustainability issues. Issues are considered through a risk identification process, and captured in risk registries as to severity, potential impact, and propensity to change. Our decision tools help firms decide on things like: where and how much to transact, how to manage a portfolio of transaction and asset obligations, whether to invest in a new asset, and how to quantify a firm’s risk tolerance. We help clients assess and shape response to regulatory and business change. We shape trading and risk program design through policies, processes, procedures and controls; provide independent best practice reviews; provide staffing and hiring advisory; transfer skills and conduct training; portfolio design; hedge strategy development; tactical trading assistance; risk quantification and reporting framework including detailed implementation; value at risk implementation; assessment of program and trader performance and performance measurement; trading and risk system selection and implementation; transaction structuring, real option valuation and modeling; credit risk management; and stress testing of portfolios. Clients include senior decision makers in Strategic Planning, Treasury Finance and Legal/Regulatory, including CFOs, CROs, and CCOs. We assess commercial protocols, developing independent valuations; test markets to verify; guide market design and rule changes; develop regulatory strategies to manage commodity related issues and risks; support strategies with expert testimony; analyze innovative financing structures; and provide M&A support services.
