ABOUT PETER H.

As User Experience Principal for Accessibility at BBC UX & D, I lead in helping to shape the audience-facing accessibility strategy and implementation for the world’s largest public service broadcaster.I have nearly 20 years of experience across accessibility, user experience and product, working on everything from B2B enterprise software to B2C consumer apps and large-scale media platforms.I approach accessibility with a product mindset. It’s not just about fixing bugs or meeting technical standards, it’s about building inclusive, valuable, user-focused features that work well for everyone. I have strong technical skills and often prototype in code to explore solutions and test hypothesis.I’m also an experienced researcher. I often lead qualitative studies and regularly apply mixed-methods research to inform design, shape product decisions, and surface real-world barriers and opportunities.Alongside my work at the BBC, I’ve contributed to accessibility in big organisations like Apple and Workday, and in fast-paced app-based platforms like Bumble.I’ve also led accessibility from a product management perspective - defining product direction, shaping requirements and features, and embedding inclusion throughout delivery. I’ve brought disabled customer voices into discovery, set up mechanisms for them to influence the roadmap, and created feedback loops around existing products. I approach accessibility as a space for innovation, where we can test hypotheses, measure impact - including how accessibility is perceived and experienced over time - and treat inclusion as a point of consumer differentiation that drives better experiences for everyone.Outside of work, I co-organise Accessibility Scotland, a not-for-profit conference, and I’m a certified user experience researcher with the Nielsen Norman Group.Always happy to connect and chat about inclusive design, accessible product strategy, or how to make digital experiences better for everyone.
