About Peter Hastings

Peter Hastings is a seasoned nuclear energy executive, industry leader, and board member. He is founder and principal of The Hastings Group, a regulatory policy consultancy advising key projects across the nuclear sector. He previously served as Vice President of Regulatory, Quality, and Public Affairs at Kairos Power, leading teams responsible for licensing and siting activities, reliability engineering, quality assurance, nuclear safeguards and security, communications and community engagement, and government affairs.Mr. Hastings has led numerous successful regulatory projects resulting in issuance of more than 10 nuclear permits or licenses; he has a diverse background encompassing management, licensing, design, and operations experience across the nuclear fuel cycle, including reactors, fuel fabrication facilities, and spent fuel storage/disposal. He specializes in management, regulatory, technical, and project/program management services for projects involving design, permitting, construction, operations, maintenance, decommissioning, and waste disposal. His specialty is new project and organization startup and management, including implementation of new or untested regulation. He previously served as Director of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for Generation mPower, and was responsible for NRC design certification for the mPower reactor, as well as the GmP consortium efforts in acquiring a construction permit for the TVA Clinch River site, and combined license applications for utility and non-utility customers.He was Licensing Manager for Duke Energy’s Nuclear Plant Development Division, the Duke team responsible for licensing new nuclear facilities, including pursuit of a Combined Construction and Operating License (COL) for Lee Nuclear Station, and responsible for development and defense of the COL application under 10 CFR Part 52, including the facility’s Final Safety Analysis Report, Environmental Report, and related licensing and programmatic documents. He was also lead for the multi-utility Design-Centered Work Group, licensing lead for NuStart Energy Development, LLC, and chair for the APOG Licensing Committee. Mr. Hastings’ background includes work as a reactor engineer responsible for startup testing and fuel performance monitoring, design engineer on the Monitored Retrievable Storage facility, management positions in safety assurance and performance assessment for the Yucca Mountain repository, and licensing manager responsible for receipt of construction authorization for the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility.
