ABOUT PETER DIRKEN
I feel incredibly privileged to have worked (and to still be working) with so many brilliant people and organisations. All my roles have been super interesting and always focussed on science, technology and innovation. Looking back at the various roles I have had, what I do now, at what I think I am good at, it has to be delivering complex projects and programmes and in and across many technology domains and across borders too.I now manage Innovate UK\'s global programme of innovation missions, connecting around 500 UK business/year to the best of innovation the world has to offer. The programme is complex, working across the technology teams (anything from Artificial Intelligence, AgriTech, Battery Technologies, Hydrogen, MedTech, Quantum to Cyber), with the various business functions as well as governments and organisations in other nations, in particular the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. I lead on developing and delivering joint programmes with these countries.I am most proud of my work with Australia and New Zealand, where, with help from many others and over the last five years, I built a vibrant innovation partnership, culminating in a £10m programme of seven joint UK/Australia Green Hydrogen R&D projects, which are just kicking off. Having developed the strategy, managing to convince my technology colleagues delivering a range of innovation missions and now this collaborative R&D programme with Australia\'s Department for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW), knowing I am doing my bit to support these companies deliver the Energy Transition, it does not get much better than that!Specialties: innovation, science, technology, hydrogen, battery technology, nuclear fusion, project management, programme management, global, international, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, funding, exports, R&D, Prince2, APM, contract management, access to finance, strategy, German, Dutch (and English obviously), some French and Italian.
