Working with a team to establish a unique national cultural hub/incubator for research and experimentation - inquiry for rural resilience in the 21st century.CCRC ACTIVITIES:R2R CONFERENCES - a biennial gathering that brings people together to share ideas, be creative, make new partnerships, and connect with those you mightn’t have.(R2R22 happened in October of 2022 with the theme: Rural Today/Rural Tomorrow. The conference took place at the Four Winds Barn in Brussels, Ontario, Canada) R2R24 was back in Blyth in the autumn of 2024 with the theme exploring our differences together. SHORE TO SHORE: Newfoundland June of 2026 - leaning on the R2R structure S2S is taking the idea on the road. In June of 2026 in partnership with CRRF we will be partnering with NFLD people and organizations to create a gathering that involves art, science, local and Indigenous knowledge. THE VOICE OF THE RIVER: Grand River Community Play: July/August 2025 The VOICE OF THE RIVER is an adventure into creativity. It is an inclusive experience that connects the communities and inhabitants that live in the Grand River Watershed. The Project is a creative activity that involves community folks alongside artists, scientists, Indigenous elders, children, students, not-for-profit organizations, learning centres – and most importantly, the Grand River herself. This is a project about storytelling - in all the ways stories can be told. THE CURIOUSITY COLLECTIVE: bringing art, science, local and Indigenous knowledge together to explore connection, meaning, and ways forward. The Collective grew out of R2R20 when we brought together 5 social scientists from Europe, Africa, South and North America, and put them together with 4 Canadian artists who interpreted their rural research.

ABOUT PETER SMITH

The greatest shift in any age, the greatest disruption, comes in changing the way we think, opening ourselves up to different ways of seeing. Creativity, imagination, collaboration, combined with listening and critical thinking will lead us to higher ground. I have been involved in telling stories in many different mediums in many different milieus. I\'ve worked in collaboration to produce conferences, theatre projects, dinners for 1,419 people on a highway, co-produced a 310KM long play, written movies and television stories, delivered keynote addresses, worked with business, government, NFPs and academic partners. Maintaining curiosity and learning every day keeps us active and hopefully keeps us humble. With a strong arts and design background I am connected to storytellers and a variety of audiences across the planet. Having founded the Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity while Artistic Director of the Blyth Festival it has grown from an idea to an independent research centre and an environment for rural experiment. Involved in a reset that started following the Rural Talks to Rural 2020 virtual conference we are working toward building a strong rural voice offering creative solutions while contributing to a sustainable world in the 21st century. email: p••••@ruralcreativity.org, website: ruralcreativity.org
