ABOUT PETER ROTHSTEIN

I believe a strong director is a profound listener—listening to the play, whispers from the writer, emotions of the actors, the heartbeat of an audience, and the pulse of the world outside. With a 30-year career staging more than 150 productions and leading a celebrated non-profit theatre companies, I have been fortunate to create theater, musical theatre and opera for communities across the continent while nourishing my passion for innovative communal storytelling. “Serious study, discipline, a broad imagination, appreciation for collaborators and a deep sense of gratitude would become the ingredients that have made him the Star Tribune’s 2015 Artist of the Year.” ~ Star Tribune MY ARTISTIC BACKGROUND After completing my Master of Fine Arts in Directing, I worked as an assistant director alongside many brilliant artists in a wide range of genres who had a profound impact on my aesthetic. In 1998, I launched Theater Latté Da, a non-profit company committed to adventurous musical theater, creating innovative, inclusive, thought-provoking productions for contemporary audiences and diverse communities. In 2023 I became the Producing Artistic Director of Asolo Repertory Theatre, Florida\'s premier theatre company.⇨ Directed 150 productions across North America including theatre, musical theatre and opera⇨ Award-winning director, playwright, and producer with more than 100 awards for artistic excellence Wrote and directed “All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914”, winner of New York’s Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience MY ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP Over the past three decades, I have worked to optimize all aspects of theatre operations, from strategic planning and budgeting to production and community engagement.
