ABOUT PETER KIM
I have been incredibly lucky to have spent the last 13 years designing, developing and commercializing medical devices after graduate school. Twelve of those years were spent working on novel biologics for regenerating bone and skin tissues. Since then, I switched industries to embark in a new path on designing heart valves for treating structural heart diseases. My main expertise is in biomaterials (allogenic, xenogenic materials along with bioceramics and synthetic resorbable biomaterials). On top of my engineering background, I have a strong biology background with experience in cell-based research, protein analysis and pre-clinical models. I have also worked with many analytical chemistry techniques specific to aid in understanding biomaterial interactions as implantable materials. Most my time was spent in a small to medium sized company setting that required many hats to be worn by the R&D team. Along the way, I’ve gained experience in a variety of topics including product sterilization using radiation/gas techniques, product biocompatibility, test method development and validation, pre-clinical testing, packaging design/validation, and so forth. With the help of some amazing team members and mentors, I have taken multiple products through all facets of the product development process from creating early concepts to taking products through full commercialization as project lead.
