ABOUT PETER HUNT

I’ve spent my working life championing the mutual and co-operative sector — helping member-owned businesses grow, modernise, and make their voices heard. It’s a space I care deeply about, because I believe in organisations that put people and communities first.Back in 2001, I founded Mutuo, the first cross-industry organisation for mutuals, bringing together co-ops, building societies, mutual insurers, and employee-owned firms. Since then, I’ve worked across the UK and internationally — advising governments in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and supporting organisations like the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals and the European Association of Co-operative Banks.I’ve also had the privilege of working directly with Parliament and policymakers — from serving as General Secretary of the Co-operative Party and Secretary to All-Party Parliamentary Groups, to helping shape legislation and campaigns that protect and strengthen mutual business.Today, I continue to work with mutuals and co-ops of all kinds, helping them navigate change, influence policy, and tell their story with confidence.I’m always interested in connecting with others who share a passion for mutual business, purposeful ownership, and long-term, member-led success.
