In the 1970s, rock developed a large number of sub-genres, such as soft rock, hard rock, heavy metal, glam rock, progressive rock and punk rock. New sub-genres that were important in the 1980s included New Wave, hardcore punk, post-punk and alternative rock. Mostly rock!
