ABOUT PETAR ILIEV
As a pharmaceutical scientist in the Analytical Research & Development team at Jazz Pharmaceuticals, I support formulation research and preclinical drug development by characterizing nano-scale carriers of API as part of Jazz’s CombiPlex technology. My work focuses on performing instrumental analysis using HPLC-CAD, LC-MS/MS and other analytical techniques, according to GLP, ICH/FDA standards. I received my PhD in 2024 at University of British Columbia under the supervision of Prof. Brent Page, where I led a medicinal chemistry project that developed chemically novel inhibitors targeting TRKA kinase and validated their anticancer activity in colon cancer models. As an interdisciplinary scientist, I am passionate about translational science and cross-functional augmentation that advances drug discovery and development. My expertise spans analytical workflows, organic synthesis, in-silico docking as well as biochemical and cellular assay development. With experience in both academia and industry, I have contributed to research projects in both hit-to-lead and lead optimization stages. I started my scientific journey at the school of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, UK, where I received 1st class MChem in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry in 2019. While not in the lab, I enjoy coffee chats (fika), dancing and cinema.
