Serving as a clinical pharmacist in a veterinary medicine compounding pharmacy. Work remotely using the pharmacy’s platform to perform all job functions including initial evaluation of hard copy controlled substances prescriptions from all 50 states, for legal and validity compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and rules. Employ clinical and professional judgment to patient prescriptions and medication history for therapeutic effect, potential side effects, interactions including drug-drug, drug-disease, drug-gender, drug-species interactions, antibiotic stewardship, contra-indications, route of administration, administration, and BUD to improve patient safety and therapeutic outcome. Monitor for therapeutic effect in weight-based and body surface area dosing. Counsel, explain, educate, answer questions regarding pharmacotherapy; and make therapeutic recommendations to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, other veterinary staff, and clients (pet owners). Verify and ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and rules for pharmacy practice with regards to controlled substances, listed substances, and legend medications with respect to office orders, patient specific prescriptions, and population prescriptions for all 50 states. Create, update, and maintain patient specific medication profiles and veterinarian prescription history profiles through consistent documentation practices. Communicate with strong verbal and written skills. Incorporate strategies into workflow to reduce errors or omissions and enhance quality goals through reporting errors, adverse reactions, and complaints. Facilitate patient specific therapies through formulation request creation and submissions. Identify customer needs, clarify information, and provide solutions and/or alternatives. Specialize in maintenance, sedation, and cancer drugs for companion animals, wildlife, exotic animals, zoo animals, and horses.
