About Perry Solmonson
Currently an E175 Captain and OE/Line Check Airman. Board member and President on the Horizon Emergency Assistance Fund - a volunteer position to help fellow employees in need.Lead Flight Ops Duty Officer - maintain 24/7 contact with flight crews during normal, irregular and emergency operations. Perry served as Horizon Air’s Director of Flight Standards and Training 20••••15. In March 2015, Perry’s role changed to Director of Flight Standards and Technology, where he is now focused on flight standards with company Check Airmen and FAA designated examiners, overseeing Horizon’s Technical Pilots – including the Non Routine Flight Operations (NRFO) pilot program for post-maintenance/aircraft modification test flights, flight test development, interface with the air traffic program in Canada, US and Mexico, as well as being responsible for Q400 operating procedures. In 1993 when Horizon began developing Head-Up Guidance System (HGS) approvals for use in low visibility conditions, Perry helped to flight test and certify these systems on five different aircraft models while creating FAA-approved ground and flight training courses. In 1997, he began work on Horizon’s Required Navigation Performance (RNP) program, which gained initial approval in August 2006 and full approval on all FAA public RNP 0.3 Authorization Required (AR) approaches in November 2011 and RNP 0.1 AR in June 2013. In 2009 he completed an FAA funded project to equip Horizon’s Q400 aircraft with WAAS. Horizon was the first FAA part 121 air carrier to conduct WAAS operations, including LPV approaches. Over the past 5 years he has overseen the development and implementation of Electronic Flight Bags, known as EFBs, as well as several other technological advances on Horizon’s aircraft.Perry earned his B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree from Colorado State University. Perry served as Chairman of the Regional Airline Association (RAA) Flight Technology Committee 20••••16.
