About Nick Collins

Hi! My name is Nick Collins, and I am a US-based critical care clinical nurse specialist and acute care nurse practitioner based in Baltimore, MD, and Washington, DC. I currently hold dual certification as an adult-gerontology critical care clinical nurse specialist (ACCNS-AG) and as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP). I have diversified clinical experience in high acuity, teaching, university-hospital ICUs, and non-traditional critical care settings. In addition to clinical practice, I work in industry, applying AI to predictive patient models in electrocardiography. I have two clinical passions: pain management in acute trauma patients and AI in electrocardiography. I have a particular interest in machine learning, electrocardiography, and how these resources can optimize patient care by leveraging predictive AI models to improve clinical decision-making. Specifically, my research interests include machine learning (AI), electrocardiography optimization to reduce clinical alarm fatigue, non-invasive heart transplant rejection surveillance, and genomics utilization for patient safety and risk reduction in perioperative acute care settings.    Credentialed advanced practice provider at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Acute Pain Management Service, Division of Trauma Anesthesiology, with a secondary appointments (moonlighter) in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine & Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Primary Responsibilities - Division of Trauma Anesthesiology- Perform H&P and consults for pain management service- Assist with pre-operative trauma anesthesiology evaluations- Manage oral and parenteral pain regimen, including patient-controlled analgesia- Co-manage regional therapy, including indwelling neuraxial and peripheral nerve catheters with our regional anesthesiology team- Assist with indwelling patient-specific pumps- Cross cover trauma surgery and orthopedic trauma answering serviceMoonlighting Secondary Responsibilities - Division of Cardiovascular Medicine & Division of Internal (Hospital) Medicine- Conduct pre-procedure H&P in interventional cardiology- Rounding E/M and follow-up inpatient visits with internal medicine attending on the non-teaching service- Perform discharge tasks and write discharge summaries- Triage acute care in collaboration with the cardiology housestaff needs of patients hospitalized under the interventional cardiology service
