About Pema Abrahams

Pema has over a decade of experience at the intersection of educational initiatives, nonprofit leadership, and cultural advocacy, and a keen interest in shaping culturally-rooted, globally-engaged education initiatives in Asia. Originally from New York City, her interest in education began when she supported the development of a local school in the Himalayas and taught lower-primary students. Since then, Pema has worked extensively with leading international organizations on systemic developmental issues across Asia, and has founded various educational initiatives that bring the region’s rich array of cultural heritage to life. She also serves on the Board of Middle Way Education (USA), stewarding the development of a flexible, open-source curriculum framework generating pathways for Buddhist wisdom to enhance modern education. As a lifelong student of meditation and philosophical inquiry in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and now based in Bangkok with her husband and children, Pema brings deep personal and professional insight to her role as co-founder and project director of The Jataka School.
