ABOUT PEGAH BEHINAEIN

CEng (Institute of Civil Engineers) structural engineer and a Certified Passive House Designer with a strong background in development of innovative, eco-friendly and lightweight materials; with proven knowledge and experience in design and analysis of Reinforced Concrete (RC), masonry, steel and timber structures under static, seismic and dynamic loading. I am also proficient in building physics and model and analyse the energy use of structural elements and different buildings. My work at Kingspan Access Floors involved working on improvement of the current product of the company which is chipboard core wrapped in steel sheets at the first phase; and developing an environmentally friendly, strong, lightweight and fire-resistant alternative core material replacing chipboard at the second phase. Through this job, I developed the following skills- Design and conduct experiments to measure different properties of composite material- Cast cementitious and lime-based specimens with introducing hemp fibre and fibreglass mesh into them to increase their strength- Generating new ideas for the alternative composite material and solve problems with a highly analytical approachMy PhD study at Heriot Watt University, Titled: “Response of fibre reinforced concrete structural elements under high rate loading”; extensive numerical and experimental studies were carried out investigating the behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) structural elements under static and dynamic (impact) loading in order to assess the potential benefits stemming from the use of steel fibre on concrete material behaviour and RC structural response. Through this work I developed my skills in- Carrying out Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis (using ABAQUS) to accurately predict the behaviour of Reinforced Concrete structures under static and impact loading- Accurately assessing the behaviour RC structural elements under impact loading- Writing design reports, preparation of calculation sheet and the use of the relevant design codes- Building Information Modelling (BIM)Over the years I have become familiar with a wide range of computer packages Structural - Finite Element computer packages such as- ABAQUS, MasterSeries, SAP ETABS and SAFEand Other computer packages such as: AutoCAD, SketchUp, IES VE, MATLAB, Autodesk Land Desktop and Visual Basic
