About Payton Richardson

I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee–Knoxville with a B.A. in Political Science, concentrating in Laws and Courts. My professional experience spans legal practice, legislative operations, and strategic communications at the federal level. I previously interned with the District Public Defender’s Office and a corporate law firm, where I conducted legal research, observed court proceedings, and assisted attorneys with case preparation. These roles strengthened my analytical skills and confirmed my long-term interest in the legal field. On Capitol Hill, I served as an intern for Congressman Greg Murphy, gaining firsthand experience in legislative operations and constituent services. I now serve as Press Assistant to Congresswoman Laurel Lee, where I support communications strategy, draft press materials, assist with media outreach, and help manage digital messaging in a fast-paced congressional environment. In addition to my public service experience, I founded and operated Knox Button Co, a small business that sharpened my leadership, branding, and organizational skills while balancing academic and professional commitments. I am passionate about law, justice, and effective public service, and I plan to pursue a legal career in the future, with particular interest in the intersection of law, policy, and communications.
