Dwight Eisenhower defined leadership as “the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it”. As I reflect upon my experiences in both the civilian and military worlds, that statement is the essence of leadership. The great leaders for whom I have worked all had one thing in common, they motivated me to perform because I didn’t want to let them down. As you grow in your career, I believe that you ultimately lead the way that you like to be led. I was very fortunate to serve in the US Army. It is a values-based organization and it laid a phenomenal foundation that I have carried with me in every job I have had since leaving the active military. I truly believe that leadership is an honor and a privilege. As a Retired Lieutenant Colonel and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran I was proud to have utilized my expertise to launch a highly successful Veterans Recruiting Outreach initiative for a Fortune 500 company.
