About Paulo Medina

Over the past five years, I\'ve built expertise across the full geospatial technology stack, from enterprise geodatabase management to Python automation to cartographic design. At ICF, I manage geospatial infrastructure for the Demographic and Health Surveys program, where my work supports public health research and interventions across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. I\'ve processed GPS datasets and administrative boundaries for surveys in Mali, Angola, DRC, Timor-Leste, and Malawi, ensuring data quality for decisions that affect millions of people.What drives me is impact. One of my most fulfilling roles has been co-facilitating the Health Data Mapping workshop, where I share geospatial knowledge with international colleagues. There\'s real purpose in empowering others to use spatial thinking for public health challenges in their own countries.My background sets me apart: I combine forestry training with advanced geospatial expertise, work fluently across four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French), and approach problems from database design through to final visualization. Whether I\'m designing PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, writing Python automation scripts, or creating thematic maps for technical reports, I focus on delivering solutions that work at scale.Currently pursuing my MS in Geographic Information Sciences at the University of Maryland, I\'m building advanced expertise across spatial statistics, geospatial modeling, machine learning, and remote sensing.
