ABOUT PAUL MITCHELL

Growing up in a fishing community with generations of my family having earned their living from the sea, it seemed logical that I would follow in their footsteps. Despite my father telling me it was a ‘mugs game’ and I should ‘stick in at school’, looking at my big brother (who I looked up to) in his early 20’s driving a Ferrari was too big a draw and I spent the last few years at school drawing boats in my books and only paying attention in the Navigation and Seamanship classes (yes we had these).Less than 3 years into that adventure, I had grown up, developed a good work ethic, made a bit of money, and enjoyed life but I had started to realise my father was perhaps right again! Not knowing what to do, I considered going into business in a pub, a restaurant, a gym, a photography business and a few other franchise opportunities, but as I reflected I came to the conclusion that I needed to get some formal qualification and chose Business Studies to keep it general as I really had no idea where I would end up.5 years later, I find myself starting my CA training and then 3 years later I was a small town boy in a multinational business finding my way in the financial and commercial world. However I never forget my roots and the principles from the early years and have tried to follow and encourage this in family and work. The concept of getting out on deck to get the job done regardless of the weather and do whatever needs to be done to take home the catch is equally applicable in the business world, just not with fish!Although I work hard, family life is very important to me and time spent with my wife Nikki and my two boys are the happiest of times. Whilst I am proud of many work achievements, the real pride comes form my family who really are my world. To be fair, I don’t mind a night down my local with the boys either, but perhaps least said about that the better!Although my personality can at times be direct and opinionated, I believe I am balanced in my views and bring a broad contribution to anything I get involved in, whether that be family, friends, volunteering or work.In my spare time, I am interested in most sports (but mostly football), enjoy walking with my wife and generally spending time with family and friends.
