PAULINE BLACK/THE SELECTERFormed in 1979 and very much a leading light of the ska revival movement, along with 2-Tone labelmates, The Specials and Madness, one thing really set them apart from the crowd, the incredible vocal talents of frontwoman Pauline Black, the queen of British Ska.Mixing punk, ska and reggae, their debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’ successfully reflected the social and political issues of the early Thatcher years in Britain and gave a voice to disaffected youth across the racial divide. 2010 reunited the original singing duo, the female icon of the 2-Tone era Pauline Black and Gaps Hendrickson and during the past half-decade, The Selecter have become increasingly aware that their championing of 2-tone/ska music is firmly rooted outside of today’s mainstream iTunes genres. They have extensively toured in the UK & Europe, USA & Australia & New Zealand. Plus they have toured with bands as diverse as PiL & The Levellers, and appeared at festivals as various as Coachella & Beautiful Days, but they have never failed to win the audience over to their infectious musical style. The Selecter is a great believer in saying ‘what it is’. They realize that ska/2-tone music has become an umbrella for many subcultures - that was its remit in 1979, and remains so to this day. This feeling of inclusivity and multi-ethnicity is reflected in their new album Subculture due for release in Spring 2015, others are \'Made In Britain\'(2011)\'Live In Britain\'(2012) & \'String Theory\'(2013)During the last 35 years Pauline has also successfully diversified into theatre, TV & film acting, TV presenting, radio broadcasting and writing. Her memoir,\'Black By Design\' published in July 2011, was nominated for a London Book Award 2012. She is available to discuss her book or for motivational speeches.Pauline has also just completed a 5 two hour shows for BBC6Music presenting her favourite tracks in 2014/2015.
