ABOUT PAUL BARRETTE

Since 1994, Paul Barrette has worked in Massachusetts and Rhode Island K12 public schools as a teacher, staff developer, Director of Technology, and school principal. He is passionate about teacher professional development and has been creating “just in time” support and instructional materials for teachers for over two decades. As Director of Technology for the Smithfield Public Schools, Paul was honored with ISTE\'s “Making IT Happen” award in December of 2015. He was also presented with the OSHEAN “Current” award in 2016. Paul served as President of the Rhode Island ISTE affiliate from 2008 until 2010 and again from 2016 to 2018. Paul is an accomplished presenter and speaker and has led workshops for the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP), Rhode Island Society for Technology Educators (RISTE), at the Rhode Island Middle Level Educators (RIMLE) conference, Learning First Alliance Rhode Island conference, Rhode Island School Counselors Association (RISCA) conferences, SchoolCIO Tech Summit in San Diego, Tech Forum Boston 2013 & 2015, Highlander Institute Blended Learning Conferences, and the METAA/CoSN CTO Clinic. He has written a number of articles and posts on the SchoolCIO blog as a CIO advisor and as a guest editor for the Tech & Learning publication and website. After serving as Director of Technology and principal of Old County Road School in Smithfield for eleven years, Paul joined the Norton, MA Public Schools as the new principal of the J.C. Solmonese School. He’s a proud husband and the father of two children who are currently attending Boston University and Berklee College of Music. Paul started his career as an elementary music teacher and has played the guitar for close to 40 years (although he is badly out of practice). Fun fact: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Paul arranged a Bach fugue for classical guitar trio and performed as a guitar soloist with the Rhode Island College orchestra.
