ABOUT PAUL ABRAMSON

I trained as an engineer before becoming a doctor. People assume this makes me a technology enthusiast in medicine. It actually makes me a skeptic.Engineers learn that complex systems fail in unexpected ways. That the elegant solution is usually the simplest one that works. Human biology is more complex than any system I encountered in engineering, and our understanding of it is far less complete. This shapes how I practice.I founded My Doctor Medical Group in San Francisco because I wanted a different kind of physician-patient relationship. When you pay me directly, I work for you. Not for an insurance company, not for a hospital system, not for shareholders. The word for this is fiduciary. It\'s surprisingly rare in American healthcare. My family has practiced medicine across three generations, starting with battlefield surgeons in both World Wars. The through-line is healthy skepticism of overtreatment. I\'ve watched promising interventions cause net harm when the mechanisms seemed clear and the enthusiasm was high. That history informs how I evaluate new treatments, whether they\'re FDA-approved pharmaceuticals or peptides someone found on Reddit.I take a different approach with patients pursuing optimization and longevity interventions. If I simply say \"don\'t do that,\" they do it anyway, without baseline labs, without monitoring, without anyone to call when something seems off. I\'d rather be a partner in a thoughtful experiment than have them go it alone. But I\'ll always be honest about what we know and what we don\'t.I\'m double board-certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine and serve as Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF, where I teach medical students. I completed a Senior Fellowship at the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. What I offer: clinical rigor combined with genuine engagement. Time to actually listen. A physician who will take your questions seriously, engage with your wearable data, and help you make decisions that are informed rather than merely confident. If you\'re looking for a doctor who treats complexity with appropriate humility and thinks carefully before intervening, we should talk.Posts and articles reflect my clinical perspective and are not individualized medical advice. Please consult your personal physician about any medical conditions or concerns you may have.
