ABOUT PAULA LORETO GRANADOS GARCÍA
Paula Granados is the Head of the EMKP at the British Museum. She provides strategic leadership and oversees the programme’s implementation, including the scholarly vision, the stewardship and preservation of the collection, and the promotion and advocacy for the work of EMKP and the Museum through research and dissemination. Paula’s research interests include the archaeological study of cultural identity and cross-cultural interaction through material culture, the intersection of cultural heritage and digital technologies, and the challenges of digital preservation in relation to the modelling of Indigenous epistemologies and alternative ontologies. Her areas of expertise include the collaborative curation of cultural heritage initiatives through digital media and experimental technologies, the creation and mediation of knowledge in museums, and data and knowledge modelling via Linked Open Data technologies. She is also interested in the application of ethical research to digital technology use, particularly as it relates to accessibility, environmental sustainability, and intellectual property rights. Paula has published extensively and coordinated several initiatives on the digital documentation of intangible heritage. She is an advisor for the UKRI-funded Imagining Futures Project, a member of the Advisory Board of the ARENET-funded ‘InDIGenius’ programme, to promote the use of digital technologies by Indigenous scholars for language and culture documentation efforts in the Americas, and the steering committee of the Linked Pasts Symposium to connect researchers, curators and practitioners with an interest in historical places.
