ABOUT PAUL PORTER

Dr. Paul Porter joined the National Speech and Debate Association in 2022. He holds a B.S. in Communication Studies from Ball State University, an M.A. in Communication and Rhetorical Studies from Eastern Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Indiana State University. Throughout his career, Paul has developed programs and initiatives to foster inclusive environments that support a sense of belonging among diverse student populations. He has also contributed to creating strategic plans and program assessments focused on advancing belonging and inclusion efforts.A respected speaker, Paul has presented on topics such as multicultural competence and unconscious bias at both state and national levels.Paul’s journey in speech and debate began at Ben Davis High School, where he was a two-time NSDA national finalist in 1997. He later became a national finalist at the National Forensic Association tournament and has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels. In 2017, he coached a national finalist in Original Oratory at Ben Davis and most recently served as an assistant coach at Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In recognition of his contributions to the activity, Paul was inducted into the National Forensic Association Hall of Fame in 2023.
