Common Sense, Intrinsic Motivation, and a Passion for Optimization - These are my guiding principles.\"Common sense isn\'t so common anymore\" or \"Common sense is hard to find\" are phrases we have all heard or uttered at some point in our lives. They are scary but true statements. The majority of workers spend too much time breaking down problems into infinitesimal pieces or worse, would rather be told what to do than go with their gut feeling. I pride myself more on possessing common sense than I do in having two engineering degrees.When the alarm clock screams at 4:30 in the morning on the coldest day of the year, what gets you out of bed? At 10pm when you are still at the office reorganizing a claim package for the fourth time, what keeps you from calling it \"good enough\"? I can honestly say it is the pride within myself that does. I am fortunate to have been blessed with great non-micromanaging supervisors throughout my career. The deadlines I have set have always been my deadlines and I cannot bring myself to half-ass work.Optimization is my one true passion. Waste is one of the easiest things to reduced yet it is still everywhere. I constantly assess choke-points in processes to find the most efficient methods. If you cross streets at diagonals to save those few extra steps and if all your light bulbs at home are LEDs you can understand how passionate I am. Hopefully you can see now my passion for optimization. Can your business use an intrinsically motivated optimizer? I have experience in an array of geotechnical practices, park and roadway design, supervision, and QA/QC. Fast-paced, highly stressful situations and deadlines are the norm for me.
