ABOUT PAUL OROURKE

I’ve worked in social care for over 35 years. I started as a support worker and now lead Next Stage Group, delivering supported housing, fostering, and care services for both young people and adults across the North West.What’s shaped me most isn’t just professional experience. It’s growing up in a working-class community where youth clubs gave kids like me somewhere to belong. That early support made a difference, and I’ve carried that with me ever since.I’m driven by the belief that real change comes from everyday moments, a shared brew, a quiet word, and showing up with empathy. These simple, human connections are the foundation of meaningful care and define how I lead.At Next Stage, I focus on prevention. Whether it’s a teenager leaving care or an adult living with mental health challenges, I believe the right support at the right time can change the whole trajectory of a life. That means being present, building trust, and creating environments where people feel safe, supported, and seen.I\'ve worked directly with people affected by exploitation, poor housing, trauma, and neglect. I work closely with schools, NHS teams, local authorities, housing providers and justice services to deliver person-centred care and experience-led support. Care that empowers our workers, uplifts young people, and pushes for reform rooted in the reality of frontline work.My mission is rooted in prevention, connection and compassion, to advocate for systems that don’t just respond to crisis, but actively foster environments where people feel safe, supported and valued.What matters to me is making care work for the people who rely on it. That means getting support in early, creating safe places to live, and valuing the people who provide care day in, day out.Let’s build a more compassionate social care system, together.
