I founded and ran Racketware Limited, a company producing IoT motion sensing solutions for racket sports, targeted initially at squash. The product comprises a small lightweight electronic sensor that attaches to the handle of the racket and records the rackets motion during play. This data is then uploaded to cloud based servers and analysed to provide players with statistics, performance feedback and coaching advice accessible from PC, tablet or mobile.I raised seed funding under SEIS and developed all the core technology including the sensor hardware, PCB, all firmware development, and USB/Web communications. The web development itself was outsourced. My main contribution however was the application of extensive Machine Learning technologies to the analysis of the sensor signals, in order to extract meaningful data for the player. In addition I undertook a large amount of R&D on the development of a full Inertial Navigation System in order to locate the racket in the court and also determine its exact orientation such that detailed analysis of shots produced and tactics could be undertaken. This would enable us to provide the player with analysis of faults and also set specific monitored goals for them to achieve in order to improve their play.
