ABOUT PAUL GENTLE

I\'m very proud to have just designed and deployed a new SQL Server 2019 environment for the NHS North Bristol Trust, to support their new Data Warehouse / Analytics platform. This has been a really enjoyable short-term contract, but from October 2022 I\'ll be looking for a new opportunity.Prior to this contract, I took a year out to study for an MSc in Data Science & Analytics at Cardiff University. I acquired new skills in machine learning (with Python, often using Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow, etc), statistics (with R), visualisation (Tableau, PowerBI, MatplotLib), computational data science / NLP, and operational research. I was awarded a \"Distinction\" grade for passing the course earlier in 2022.I am very keen to find a new role that lets me put into practice some of the new skills mentioned above, ideally combining them with my wider DBA experience. I\'ve been familiarising myself with the Microsoft tools that allow integration of some these data science / engineering concepts with SQL databases, within Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Spark, etc). I am hoping to find a new role that will allow me to continue gaining experience with these technologies. In total, I\'ve been working with data for 17 years, 13 of those as a Database Administrator. I\'ve looked after the production databases of several large organisations, sometimes while working through my own company on short-term contracts for clients including the University of Exeter and the Ministry of Defence. In my last permanent role, I spent a fantastic four-and-a-half-years at OVO Energy as Lead DBA. During my time there I managed the migration of the entire SQL Server estate amongst between data centres, and ensured our databases continued to perform well as customer numbers increased by 600%.I\'ve worked with all versions of Microsoft SQL Server from SQL to 2019. I\'ve previously spent a significant amount of time working with Oracle 10g and 11g on both Windows and Linux, and lately I’ve started to explore Azure SQL Databases, InfluxDB and MySQL.I have several Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle professional database qualifications (most recently earning the MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration certification), and a 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Accounting & Finance. During the last few years I expanded my knowledge of the wider world of data by completing the 10-module Microsoft Professional Program in Big Data, and the University of London\'s Foundations of Data Science: K-Means Clustering in Python course, before studying full-time for the Data Science & Analytics MSc.
