obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1981. Upon graduation, he joined the Vancouver office of McKenzie Snowball Skalbania Ltd. and was primarily involved in the design of various commercial and residential buildings. He also developed numerous computer programs including a program for the three dimensional analysis of multi-storey shear wall structures. In early 1983 he joined Bogue Babicki Associates Inc, a practice known for innovation, and became responsible for the design coordination and production of working drawings for the EXPO 86 modular pavilion system and EXPO Centre (now Science World), a double layer geodesic dome.In 1985 he established his own company, Paul Fast Associates Ltd, and in 1989 the corporate partnership of Fast + Epp was formed. For the past twenty five years he has been involved in the design of many projects in Canada, Asia and Germany.Paul is Partner of Fast + Epp and is registered as a professional engineer in Canada, Washington State and Germany. He sits on advisory boards with the Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia, and the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of BC. In the Spring of 2010 was named an honorary member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in the U.K. He loves to explore new ways to combine different materials to create economical and architecturally striking structures.Paul has also designed innovative recreational products such as the ‘Sunshell’ Beach Canopy which was granted a U.S. patent. He has been guest speaker at conferences and universities in North America and Europe.
