I am a European and UK Patent Attorney in the Chemistry Team, with over 10 years experience as a qualified attorney.I work with clients across the size spectrum - from local UK start-ups, to US and Japanese attorney firms, right up to major multinational corporations.My work spans all aspects of patents, including drafting, prosecution, portfolio management, and freedom to operate analyses. A large part of the work I do focusses around opposition and appeal work, as well as challenging third party IP rights before grant through third party observations.Alongside my patent docket, I help to lead Mewburn Ellis\' efforts in the polymer and cleantech space, and actively contribute to the conversation on those topics.I really enjoy teaming up with colleagues - helping to train Mewburn\'s excellent team of technical assistants on their way to qualification, and collaborating with more experienced attorneys to bring a range of views and talents to our work.

ABOUT PAUL DUNNE
I am a European and UK Patent Attorney, and UPC representative, with a background and specialism in chemistry, with over 10 years experience as a qualified attorney, listed as one of Mewburn Ellis\'\"key lawyers\" in the Legal 500 rankings 2024.I have developed a particularly strong reputation in European patent challenge work, and routinely help with third party observations, oppositions, and UPC cases, often in the context of global patent challenge strategies. I have led numerous complex EPO opposition and appeal proceedings for major US, European and Japanese companies, and have first-hand experience of the UPC, helping to oversee a team handling two complex UPC cases before the Munich Central Division.I enjoy all aspects of patent work, whether that be collaborating closely with start-up clients to begin building their own patent portfolio on tight budgets, right up to helping major international companies to devise and implement sophisticated strategies to protect their IP position. In all these interactions, the thing I value most is fostering a team-like approach with clients.My patent work covers a broad sweep of technologies, taking in chemical technologies such as green polymers, graphene materials, detergents, agrochemicals and refrigerants, as well as state of the art imaging systems for medical and other applications.Outside of my patent work, I am part of a team helping to lead Mewburn Ellis\' efforts in the polymer and cleantech space. I am proud to have contributed to Mewburn Ellis\' reports on Green IP and the UK \"Green Channel\", co-authored our \"Sustainable Technologies\" information resources page, and help to oversee a variety of blogs on green topics. These efforts have allowed me to meet some fascinating people in the cleantech world, including through several events which we have co-organised with Oxfordshire Greentech.In all of my work, I try to stress the importance of treating IP as a key part of a company\'s \"commercial toolkit\"- one amongst several tools to be reached for when seeking a particular commercial aim.
