About Paul Duchene
Career journalist with deep experience in automotive and transportation issues. Freelancer for The Chicago Tribune, the New York Times, and other news organizations. First a reporter, then an editor for The Surrey Comet, the Slough Observer, Kensington Post, Art and Antiques Weekly and other English papers, I learned the basics, including \"If your mother says she loves you - check it out.\" In America since 1971, with 10 years at the Tri-City Herald and 20 at The Oregonian. As an editor, I started the Oregonian\'s A&E arts and entertainment section in 1986, and I was the automotive editor from 1989 to 1994. After 1994 I was a features writer in the Penney-Missouri award-winning (three out of four years) Living section. I followed that up with stints at KPAM radio as an entertainment reporter and as the automotive editor of the Portland Tribune. Then I spent four years as executive editor of Sports Car Magazine, during which time we started Corvette Market Magazine. I\'ve been freelancing for the last seven years, working as Hagerty\'s European editor, contributing to automotive and motorcycle magazines and writing auction catalogs for Gooding & Co, RM-Sotheby\'s, and Bonham\'s. Excursions include motorcycle racing, six Alcan Arctic Winter Rallies, the 2006 Motogiro d\'Italia, and the 2008 Motogiro America. Concours judge, automotive appraiser, announcer at Laguna Seca and Portland Historic Races.
