About Paul Dangio
I\'m a Robotics Engineer with 13 years of experience in the research & development of autonomous systems in the ground, air, and maritime domains. My skills primarily include- Development of novel technologies in robotics. Duties typically include SW/HW design, implementation, simulation, test/evaluation, live demonstrations, technical presentations, and filing patent applications- Leading technical programs with diverse teams. Includes project planning, scheduling, budgeting, agile practices, logistics, and staff management- Building and growth business around robotics R&D. This largely includes strategic selection of business opportunities & partnerships, as well as crafting strong proposals, white papers, and marketing materials- Building a team and environment to support business expansion. This includes strategic hiring, staff mentorship, overcoming logistical hurdles, and building laboratory environmentsFor the past 9 years, I\'ve been working at Booz Allen Hamilton to create and grow it\'s first robotics R&D business segment. Since I joined the firm, I\'ve created a team with a multi-million dollar annual revenue that is simultaneously capable of running substantial internal R&D for continued growth. Please see my experience section below for examples of high-profile projects our team has worked to date. Before joining Booz Allen Hamilton, I earned my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. My dissertation focused on neural-network-based, model-predictive control of an autonomous vehicle with a human operator in the loop. During my time at VT, I worked on many other robotics-based projects and competitions, including RoboCup, AUVSI RoboBoats, IARC, IGVC, MAGIC, etc.A high-level list of my purely technical skills includes- Sensing/Perception (LIDAR, vision, structured light, GPS, inertial, odometry)- State Estimation (Kalman Filters, Particle Filters)- Path Planning & Trajectory Control (A*/D*, Potential Fields)- Machine Learning & Optimization (Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Recursive Optimization)- Autonomy, Behaviors, & Artificial Intelligence (e.g. State Machines, Behavior Trees,)- Multi-Agent Collaboration (communications, synchronization, and shared planning)- Human-robot interaction (natural/intuitive interfacing, information flows)- Software development (ROS, C++, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW)- Embedded Systems (programming with Linux, CUDA, Docker)- Hardware Design, Fabrication, and Assembly (CAD/CAM, machining, 3D printing)- Electrical Design & Fabrication (circuit design, soldering/wiring)
