ABOUT PAUL BROOKS MANAGED

From a very early age technology fascinated me. I did well at history but, to be honest, I hated it. I was much more interested in the future, science, space and gadgets.My first proper job was as a Computer Operator for the Joint Matriculation Board. Within 6 months I had progressed to Computer Programmer writing software in Assembler for processing O and A level entries and results. I was in heaven, having a monstrous IBM 370 Mainframe under my control. This beast filled a very large room, it cost a fortune but had less power than my current desktop calculator!I left the JMB and went to work at a software house. It was there that I got my hands on an IBM 5100 (the predecessor to today’s desktop PC). It was billed as being portable but weighed in at a not so portable 55 pounds and would set you back up to about 3 years at the software house I spent a further 18 months as an IT Manager for a firm of stockbrokers, and it was there that I got the urge to set up my own business. That became a reality in 1984 when Antar Information Technology Ltd was formed. It was both exciting and terrifying as I’d never run a business before but I was working with technology and I could choose what gadgets I got to play with. I was constantly learning new skills and being introduced to faster and better hardware, operating systems, applications and security products. Move on to today and the gadgets have got better, more powerful and more diverse. Computers that can understand what you’re saying and talk back to you. That was science fiction when I started in computing! One thing hasn’t changed though, and that is my enthusiasm and excitement for what I do. I’m still learning new stuff and helping customers to get the most out of their systems. I’m still like a kid at Christmas when I get to play with a new toy.Need any help with your IT?
