ABOUT PAUL BIRRELL
Now a Managing Director at Interpath specialising in the fascinating world (honestly) of pensions covenant advisory. I started training at Ernst & Young way back in 1996 as a business analyst providing commercial data analysis for clients including Asda and MBNA). I switched to Transaction Services in and to KPMG in 2004 in a similar role. Foreseeing the economic crisis, I then transferred to Restructuring in early 2008 just ahead of the banking crisis. From 2008, I\'ve mainly focused upon advising trustees and employers of defined benefit pension schemes on the strength of employers and brokering deals on cash and security packages in a variety of scenarios (valuations, transactions and stress/distress). I primarily focus on clients in the north of England but have involvement in national clients, with a specialism in solving stressed pensions situations.From 6 April 2021, KPMG\'s UK Restructuring practice was established as a new, separate business called Interpath Advisory and my title changed from Associate Partner to Managing Director, but with an undiminished focus on supporting my clients in delivering their objectives.
