ABOUT PATTIE REAVES
I got into journalism by accident. First week of college, I tagged along with a friend to the newspaper orientation meeting (I had no interest in joining). But I mentioned to the news editor that the wifi went down during move-in weekend, and she asked if I wanted to write the story. You could just do that? Go be nosy and ask questions for a living? I was hooked.I got into engineering by baby steps. I had loved tinkering with HTML and tearing source code apart since I was a kid. Early in my career, I didn\'t see a lot of people in CS that looked like me, and I chose a hybrid \"newsroom developer\" path — someone who sat in editorial building products to tell stories. I loved being able to speak the language on both sides.Eventually, I realized I was always meant to be an engineer, and in 2016, I went all in.I got into management by intention, over time. I\'m genuinely curious about what makes people tick — finding their talents and helping them do more of what they do best, every day. I love taking care of people, I love the craft of building with code, and I especially love working on products that scratch that itch I had all those years ago — helping each other know what is going on in the world.
