ABOUT PATRIZIA STELLA DE
Arch. Patrizia De Masi has been focusing the whole career on lighting design, moved by a passionate interest about light that extends from the projectual dimension to the scientific research. Graduated as Architect Urban Planner at the University of Chieti, after a period of studies by the University of Toronto, she started right away with a thesis that anticipated the importance of a good lighting strategy in a city context. Dr. De Masi professional imprint has always been characterised by the pursue of excellency. In this sense, two crucial passages have marked her professional path. First of all, she has been co-founder and now President of the AILD Italian Association of Lighting Design, which has recently reached the unprecedented goal of opening the way to having formally recognised the figure of the Lighting Designer, in collaboration with UNI (Ente Normativo Italiano). Besides, with her design brand PHOTONIKA she has realised for the Government of Saudi Arabia two widely appreciated lighting projects for prestigious heritage locations, Al Basta District and Rijal Alma in the south region of Asir within the program Vision 2030, in which she has fully expressed the potentiality of light when it resonates with the profound significance of a site and its cultural background. On the scientific side, she has set up a groundbreaking lighting system with a multiple approach that conveys the actual biological evidences and the latest technological resources, in a coherent mechanism that guarantees a healthy luminous environment. The project is now in discussion with international companies and funding organisations to be bought from design into marketplace. She is also carrying on a research about the interaction of light and water, aimed to define a thesis that may revolutionise once for all the use of artificial light in human environments.
