About Patrick R. Johnson

I believe journalism doesn’t just have the capacity to be better, but the power to be better. And in my work, I find the ways to make this happen.Through a combination of traditional, applied, and educational research and development, I bring news literacy and metacognition to the forefront of journalism practice. This means I help newsrooms and teachers to challenge the way things have always been done by asking them to think inward about their own thinking, and then finding ways to build this into their workflows, processes, and lessons.So much of this is guided by my passion for more just and equitable futures, highlighting and championing stronger ethical practices, marginalized voices and communities, and opportunity for growth and change.
