ABOUT PATRICK DWYER

My name is Patrick Dwyer and I am located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada! My background education is in chemistry. I had pursued this field because I am curious about how things work at a fundamental level. During my undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of Calgary, I worked during my education at Bow Valley College as a Desktop Analyst. In this position, I learned many technical skills related to computers, but also many customer service related skills working with student and staff at the college. I was lucky to have great people help me through the journey of my education and was a Master\'s student performing novel research in the field of materials chemistry. I was apart of a group that specialised in materials chemistry specific to gas capture and separation using metal organic frameworks. My specialisation was using and an organic phosphonate ligand to create a hydrogen bonded network (H-MOFs) which we published in the journal Chem. Before leaving towards industry, I had a taste of working at a startup in the cannabis industry working with nano particles.Leaving the educational institutions, I started my journey in industry. My first position was at another small company named Isotopes Canada. We utilised radioisotopes as tracers for multiple types of applications. Here, I had the pleasure of learning from great mentors about how to run a small business, and got my feet wet in all aspects. This included leading a team of 3 through research and industrial projects, setting up and implementing a health and safety program within the company becoming SECOR status, and collaborating with clients from the initial conversations all the way to final conversations related to project findings based on our technology. My next experience was at Summit Nanotech. I started out as a Chemist in the lab performing client based case studies and reporting on the outcomes. I was fortunate enough to move into the realm of data as a Data Scientist, where I accomplished data engineering, application building and collaboration with other teams for automation of tasks.Currently, I\'m a Research Scientist at FREDsense exploring the world of PFAS.
